ABOUT TARAGÁPE
the Journey:
Jeremy grew up in a small town. At a young age he began to realize the magical power that music had to inspire incredible emotion and reflection. He wrote his first song at the age of 6, and by 16 he was performing originals in his community.
Equally passionate about creativity and academics, Jeremy went on to study voice and guitar while receiving a bachelor’s in music education with high honors from Shenandoah Conservatory. In between classes and studies, Jeremy was writing and rehearsing with his progressive jam band on a mission to save the world through music—a guitar his sword and lyrics the armor.
After college, he moved to Pittsburgh where he became a lighthouse in the music scene, sharing songs from his heart while heading up the guitar department at the Pittsburgh Music Academy and teaching at the Hope Academy. In addition to performing his own songs, Jeremy found himself in four other bands where he produced three studio albums and one live album, while opening for iconic acts like The Doobie Brothers, Meatloaf, Jerry Douglas, and playing VIP stages at major venues before Dave Matthews Band, Dead & Co, Def Leppard, and Heart took the main stage.
Yet something was missing. No matter the achievement, there was an underlying baseline of depression. Always a seeker, Jeremy followed his intuition to travel to Peru and work with the shamanic plants and maestros of the jungle. The page had been turned, a new chapter began.
During this time Jeremy received the graceful blessing of the Handpan. The expression of his music was evolving. There was a sense of creating music for a higher purpose, rather than a higher achievement. Delightful compositions began to emerge that would bring a sense of peace and joy to the listener. People began telling Jeremy how his music felt like healing.
On a new mission, Jeremy teamed up with Dango Rose of Elephant Revival to record and produce the album Spirit Maze, a 432Hz album featuring the Handpan arranged with strings, as well as three of Jeremy’s most embodied conscious lyrical compositions. It was through this creative endeavor that ‘Taragápe’ emerged. The intention was to share music that transcends the individual, more-so a collaboration with spirit supported by community.
“Tara” is compassion, “agape” is universal love.
And so Jeremy became Taragápe, and Taragápe became something far greater than Jeremy.
Music became something greater.
After moving to Boulder, Taragápe found himself in loyal service to a modern mountain temple called The StarHouse, built in accordance with the cycles of the Earth and the Zodiac itself. Over the years, this incredible space became the brilliant training ground for Taragápe’s new offering—The Sound Journey.
Utilizing a diverse array of instruments such as sound bowls, flutes, chimes, charango, and of course guitar, vocals, and handpans—Taragápe now offers the precision of decades of musical refinement in service to greater healing and alignment, a return to the natural cycles and vibrations.
The intention has become attunement.
Taragápe is a name combining "Tara" and "Agape" that implies cosmic compassionate universal love.
Through the energetic signature of Taragápe, Jeremy Colbert seeks to serve as a hollow vessel for diverse vibrations to emerge.
Taragápe is an integrative journey through sound–utilizing the handpan, guitar, vocals, as well as native flute, kalimba, charango, harmonium, singing bowls, and more.
Finely tuned musicianship and deeply contemplative compositions create a sonic environment for a relaxing reflective remembrance of inner essence.
